Opening with a coeducational enrollment, then, in 1915, serving boys only, the school once again became completely coeducational in 1970, and it now draws students from roughly two dozen states and a similar number of foreign countries. Though Presbyterian-affiliated, the school selects a multidenominational enrollment. With a program grounded in the academic fundamentals, Blair has sent graduates to more than 200 different colleges over the years. Advanced Placement courses and electives are available, and seniors also participate in independent study projects. The fine and performing arts departments are particularly strong, as evidenced by such offerings as architecture, video production, orchestra and jazz ensemble. The Society of Skeptics, a weekly lecture series sponsored by the history department and in continuous operation since 1977, features speakers from the fields of business, government, science, academia and the arts. Students may take advantage of outdoor opportunities provided by Blair's proximity to the Delaware Water Gap and the Pocono Mountains. Weekend school-sponsored trips to New York City and Philadelphia, PA, enable boys and girls to partake of urban culture (such as shows and museums).
