Serving both local families and English-speaking ones from more than 60 nations, BIS offers English-medium instruction for international families (with German taught as a foreign language). Children in the primary program follow the comprehensive, inquiry-based IB Primary Years Program. During the middle school years (grades 6-10), the curriculum includes compulsory course work in English, German, math, the natural sciences, history, geography, art, music and athletics. Computer science begins in grade 2, and a third language becomes available in grade 6. In the senior school (grades 11-13), pupils follow the English-language IB Diploma Program. Those planning to attend German universities may also prepare for the German Abitur.
