Berkeley Preparatory School
4811 Kelly Rd, Tampa, FL 33615
Located on an 80-acre, suburban site that includes separate lower, middle and upper division administrative and teaching facilities, Berkeley serves the Tampa Bay area. The school immerses all students in the core subjects of math, English, science, history and foreign language. Pupils begin taking Spanish, athletics, drama, music and visual arts in prekindergarten, while sixth graders participate in double sessions of English. The flexible program in the upper division (grades 9-12) allows qualified students to begin Advanced Placement course work as early as sophomore year, and Berkeley also offers a selection of honors courses and advanced topics. Students in grades 4-12 purchase laptop computers for use in class and at home. Upper division pupils perform compulsory community service: 22 hours per year in grades 9-11, 10 hours in grade 12. Berkeley's international studies office sponsors educational trips abroad and arranges student exchanges with private schools in Europe and Australia during spring and summer breaks. A full-year study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain, is an option for sophomores and juniors.
