Berkeley Carroll School

181 Lincoln Pl, Brooklyn, NY 11217

The school resulted from a merger between the Carroll Street School (founded in 1966) and the Berkeley Institute (founded in 1886). Located in Brooklyn's historic Park Slope section, Berkeley Carroll's campus consists of two building complexes housing its lower school (grades PS-4) on Carroll Street, and its middle and upper schools (grades 5-12) on Lincoln Place. The comprehensive curriculum includes a full program of Advanced Placement courses, independent study and internships, as well as electives in creative writing, studio art and computer science. BCS arranges direct cultural and academic exchanges with secondary schools in France and Spain. Computer proficiency and a senior internship are required for graduation. A visiting artists program brings professional artists to campus to work with middle and upper school students on skills and techniques they might not ordinarily learn in a classroom setting.
