Beauvoir—The National Cathedral Elementary School
3500 Woodley Rd NW, Washington, DC 20016
Founded as a coeducational primary school for students that would move onto one of the Cathedral Schools (St. Alban’s or the National Cathedral School), in 1939 Beauvoir was established as a separate and independent school in the Cathedral system. The school provides a broadly based, integrated academic curriculum that is supplemented by resources in science, technology, music, library, media, the visual arts, Spanish and physical education. Computers are available in all classrooms. Beauvoir's Global Studies Program, conducted from January to March each year, engages students in integrated explorations of countries from one of five geographical regions. The school also offers an extended-day program and after-school enrichment courses. Chapel is held in the National Cathedral, and teachers frequently utilize the 60-acre Cathedral Close, as well as other resources in the Washington area. Beauvoir organizes age-appropriate projects in the community at all grade levels.
