Bancroft School

110 Shore Dr, Worcester, MA 01605

The oldest coeducational independent day school in central Massachusetts, the school was named for George Bancroft, a diplomat, secretary of the Navy and historian who was born in Worcester in 1800. After outgrowing the original school buildings on Elm Street, Bancroft moved to more spacious quarters on Sever Street in 1922; in 1958, the school first occupied its current, 36-acre campus. Bancroft's college preparatory curriculum features Advanced Placement courses in the major disciplines, including all three available foreign languages. Academics are enhanced by sports, clubs and activities, drama, art and music. Middle school children perform nine hours of community service annually, while older students accumulate 30 hours of community service in grades 9-12.
