Avon Old Farms School
500 Old Farms Rd, Avon, CT 06001
Theodate Pope Riddle designed and founded this architecturally unique school. Its location within 850 acres of forested land provides for a number of outdoor activities, including fishing, hiking, camping, biking and cross-country skiing. The curriculum focuses on the development of writing, reading and mathematical skills. The academic courses are college preparatory, with electives provided in music, drama and the arts. Advanced Placement courses are available in every discipline, including computer science. Computer technology is an important aspect of school life; students have the option of purchasing a laptop computer through the school. An enrichment hour each weekday evening provides opportunities for extra help. The day student program is unusual in that boys are strongly encouraged to take part in many boarding activities, including evening functions. In addition, the school assigns each pupil a campus job. Every student participates in a sport or an alternate activity of his choice each season.
