Language arts, history and culture, math, science, the creative arts and physical education are viewed as interdependent components of Atrium's progressive curriculum. Two teachers in each classroom jointly formulate lesson plans and work with the students. The school's collaborative, hands-on approach leads to the development of critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition to work in the core subjects, all boys and girls learn Spanish, play violin in a partnership with New England Conservatory and study urban wildlife at the adjacent Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
