American International School, Dhaka
PO Box 6106, Gulshan, Dhaka, 1212 Bangladesh
Successor to the former Dhaka American Society School (founded in 1963), AIS/D serves the expatriate community of Dhaka. During the elementary years (grades PS-5), children follow a core curriculum of language arts, math, science and social studies, which are all taught by a homeroom teacher. Specialists teach music, art, computer, library, South Asian studies and physical education classes. The program, which incorporates American curricular standards, also includes service learning, student support services and extracurricular activities. The thematic middle school program (grades 6-8) is similar to that conducted in the US. The core curriculum incorporates both service learning and information technology. AIS/D's college preparatory high school (grades 9-12) offers both Advanced Placement course work and the two-year IB Diploma Program. Elementary school and middle school students choose from an array of after-school activities, while high schoolers may take part in any of a number of interest clubs and interscholastic sports.
