American Boychoir School
75 Mapleton Rd, Princeton, NJ 08540
Founded by Herbert Huffman as Columbus Boychoir School in Columbus, OH, this school moved to Princeton in 1950 and became the American Boychoir School in 1980. The school assumed its present location, on a 47-acre tract that also houses the Princeton Center for Arts and Education, in 2013. American Boychoir's program includes professional concert tours with renowned orchestras, conducted domestically and abroad, as well as classroom instruction, physical education and music study. International tours have included trips to Japan, Latvia, Sweden and Denmark. Boys are admitted on the basis of musical potential, as demonstrated by an audition, and scholastic aptitude. Instruction covers all areas of academics, vocal performance and music theory. Class size is small and academic study is closely supervised, with required evening study and extra help. A special curriculum is designed for those occasions when the choir is on tour, an opportunity that affords many educational and cultural opportunities.
