The school offers a traditional college preparatory curriculum. In 1966, AA moved to a 312-acre campus, allowing for considerable expansion in plant and enrollment. The academy includes in its curriculum for grades 6-10 an outdoor experiential education requirement. Students backpack, kayak and climb into wilderness areas of the Southwest to learn through direct experience about the natural world. In addition, juniors and seniors may take an elective course in outdoor leadership. Students satisfy the following community service requirements: two hours per semester in grades 8 and 9, six hours per year in grades 10-12. Opportunities for both domestic and international exchanges are available to sophomores and juniors. Seniors may participate in the five-week Senior Project Program, which takes the form of a off-campus internship with a professional, an on-campus seminar or a self-directed project.
