Abington Friends School

575 Washington Ln, Jenkintown, PA 19046

Abington Friends is the third-oldest Quaker school in the country. Founded by the Religious Society of Friends, it is the only 17th-century school still occupying its original site, a 50-acre tract. The academic program, which emphasizes college preparation, includes Advanced Placement courses in most subjects, as well as an independent study option for qualified students. Emphasis is placed on character development and physical fitness. Foreign travel and frequent excursions to the cultural and historical sites of Philadelphia are offered. Each student attends Meeting for Worship, a central dimension of the school's program, once a week. Community service is also an integral part of school life: Service is part of the curriculum in the elementary grades, while students in grades 9-12 fulfill a 10-hour service requirement each year.
